I was lost on a backroad to nowhere
With demons riding on my shoulder
But I found grace in the strangest places
And I'm finally getting older
I was a man with a troubled past
Making choices that would never last
I was drinking, fighting, living fast
Thinking nothing would ever hold me fast
I hurt the people that I loved the most
Became a ghost, a hollow host
Of a man who didn't know his way
Couldn't find the light of day
I woke up one morning in a ditch
Bleeding, broken, feeling rich
With nothing but my shame and pain
Crying out in the pouring rain
But something changed inside my soul
When I hit that bottom, lost control
I called out to a power greater than me
And that's when I started to see
Backroads and redemption, that's where I found my way
From the darkness of my past into the light of day
Backroads and redemption, leading me back home
To a place where I ain't never gonna be alone
Backroads and redemption, saving my soul
Making me whole, making me whole
I was broken, I was lost, I was dying inside
But backroads and redemption brought me back to life
I met a preacher on that backroad
Who helped me put down my heavy load
He said "Son, it ain't too late to change
To let the Lord rearrange"
I got down on my knees and I prayed
Asked for forgiveness for all the mistakes I made
And something lifted from my chest
Like a weight had finally left
I went back to my family with tears in my eyes
Told them I was sorry, told them no more lies
My mama held me like I was a child again
And I felt the healing start to begin
Something changed inside my soul
When I let the Lord take control
I called out to a power greater than me
And that's when I started to see
Backroads and redemption, that's where I found my way
From the darkness of my past into the light of day
Backroads and redemption, leading me back home
To a place where I ain't never gonna be alone
Backroads and redemption, saving my soul
Making me whole, making me whole
I was broken, I was lost, I was dying inside
But backroads and redemption brought me back to life
Now I'm helping other men find their way
Telling them there's always hope, there's always a way
That no matter how far you've fallen down
The Lord can lift you up off the ground
I'm a living testament to grace and love
To the power of the Lord above
And every day I thank the Lord up high
For giving me a second chance to try
I'm walking on these backroads with a purpose now
With my head held high and my faith so strong
I'm spreading the good word wherever I go
Helping others find the light they need to know
The man I was is dead and gone
But the man I am is strong
And I owe it all to that backroad
Where I put down my heavy load
Backroads and redemption, that's where I found my way
From the darkness of my past into the light of day
Backroads and redemption, leading me back home
To a place where I ain't never gonna be alone
Backroads and redemption, saving my soul
Making me whole, making me whole
I was broken, I was lost, I was dying inside
But backroads and redemption brought me back to life
Yeah, backroads and redemption brought me back to life
Backroads and redemption
Thank the Lord above
Backroads and redemption
