Weihnachten 1914.

Christmas 1914.
Calm descends on the front line and the guns fall silent. In the trenches, men who were killing each other just a few hours earlier now lie facing each other. But suddenly, one after the other, they get up, walk towards each other and celebrate, play soccer, and simply have fun for a few hours in a world of horror. For a few hours, they can forget why they are there before they start slaughtering each other again.

Song Lyrics

×
Snow fell quiet on broken ground,
No orders given, no warning sound.

The night was cold in the trench we lay,
Barbed wire dreams at the edge of day.
Hands on rifles, hearts held tight,
Waiting for dawn… or the end of night.

Then from the dark a voice rang clear,
A fragile song no one should hear.
Not a command, not fear, not flame—
Just “Silent Night” without a name.

For one short night the guns were still,
No blood was paid, no man was killed.
We crossed the line we swore we’d defend—
And met a stranger who felt like a friend.

Buttons traded, a photograph,
A laugh too loud in a place of wrath.
Boots in the snow, a ball, a cheer,
Football played where death stood near.

For one short night the war forgot
Why we were there and who we shot.
No flags, no ranks, no right or wrong—
Just human voices, one shared song.

We knew the dawn would break the spell,
That orders wait and bullets dwell.
But in that dark, in frozen land,
We shook the world by shaking hands.

For one short night we all were free,
From kings and lies and history.
Tomorrow came… the truth was sad—
But Christmas showed what we once had.

Snow fell again on no man’s land,
And silence held us… hand in hand.
